premens enthält als Wirkstoff einen Trockenextrakt aus den Früchten von Mönchspfeffer (Vitex agnus castus), Ze 440. Dieses Arzneimittel wird nach einem standardisierten Verfahren hergestellt. Durch die Standardisierung wird eine gleichbleibende Qualität erzielt.
Die Früchte von Mönchspfeffer lindern Beschwerden vor der Menstruation (Prämenstruelles Syndrom PMS). premens wird deshalb bei Beschwerden verwendet, welche bis zu zwei Wochen vor der Menstruation beginnen und mit dem Einsetzen der Blutung wieder verschwinden. Zu den Beschwerden gehören körperliche und seelische Leiden, welche die alltägliche Arbeit erschweren. Es handelt sich dabei um Beschwerden wie Kopfschmerzen, Hautprobleme, leichtes Spannungsgefühl in den Brüsten, Unterleibsbeschwerden sowie Stimmungsschwankungen, Reizbarkeit, nervliche Angespanntheit, Verstimmungszustände, Müdigkeit und Schlafprobleme. Ausserdem wird premens auch traditionell eingesetzt bei menstruellen Zyklusstörungen (zu häufige oder zu seltene Regelblutungen).
premens kann auch von Frauen, welche ein Präparat zur hormonalen Empfängnisverhütung («Pille») einnehmen und Beschwerden vor der Blutung haben, eingenommen werden.
Bei Spannungen und Schwellungsgefühl in den Brüsten sowie bei Störungen der Regelblutung sollte ein Arzt/eine Ärztin aufgesucht werden.
Dieses Arzneimittel enthält ca. 40 mg verwertbare Kohlenhydrate pro Einzeldosis.
premens darf nicht bei bekannter Überempfindlichkeit auf einen der Inhaltsstoffe resp. die Früchte von Mönchspfeffer angewendet werden.

In der Schwangerschaft besteht kein Bedarf zur Einnahme von premens, da die Menstruation natürlicherweise ausbleibt.
Während der Stillzeit sollten Sie das Arzneimittel nicht einnehmen oder Ihren Arzt/Ihre Ärztin um Rat fragen.
Aufgrund der bisherigen Erfahrungen ist kein Risiko für das Kind bekannt. Systematische wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen wurden aber nie durchgeführt. Vorsichtshalber sollten Sie während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit möglichst auf Arzneimittel verzichten oder den Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. die Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin um Rat fragen.
Nehmen Sie jeden Tag 1 Filmtablette premens. Es wird eine Therapiedauer von mindestens 3 Monaten empfohlen, da die Wirksamkeit während dieser Zeitspanne aufgebaut wird. Die Einnahme der Filmtablette erfolgt mit etwas Wasser, vorzugsweise immer zur gleichen Tageszeit, z.B. nach dem Aufstehen oder vor dem Schlafengehen, unabhängig von den Mahlzeiten.
Halten Sie sich an die in der Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten, bzw. Ihrer Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin.
Für premens sind bisher folgende Nebenwirkungen beobachtet worden:
Hautausschläge und Hautjucken. In diesem Fall ist die Therapie abzubrechen und gegebenenfalls ein Arzt/eine Ärztin zu konsultieren.
Veränderungen in Häufigkeit oder Intensität der Regelblutung.
Über die Häufigkeit des Auftretens liegen keine Angaben vor.
Bei Störungen der Regelblutung im Zusammenhang mit der Behandlung mit premens sollte ein Arzt/eine Ärztin aufgesucht werden (siehe «Was soll dazu beachtet werden?»).
In wenigen Fällen können einzelne Beschwerden des prämenstruellen Syndroms zu Beginn der Behandlung mit premens verstärkt auftreten.
Bei fehlender Besserung oder weiterer Verschlimmerung der Beschwerden bzw. der Zyklusstörungen sollte ein Arzt/eine Ärztin aufgesucht werden.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogisten bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin informieren.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Bei Raumtemperatur (15-25 °C) in der Originalverpackung aufbewahren.
Das Arzneimittel ist ausserhalb der Reichweite von Kindern aufzubewahren.
Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt, Apotheker oder Drogist bzw. Ihre Ärztin, Apothekerin oder Drogistin.
