Andreafol mit dem Wirkstoff Folsäure ist ein Arzneimittel zur Vorbeugung von Neuralrohrdefekten beim werdenden Kind. Es sind dies sehr seltene, aber schwerwiegende Missbildungen, die darin bestehen, dass sich die Wirbelsäule (das «Neuralrohr») beim Embryo nicht richtig schliesst. Diese Kinder haben dann einen offenen Rücken («Spina bifida»). Viele von Ihnen bleiben invalid oder sind nicht lebensfähig.
Die medizinische Forschung hat nachgewiesen, dass Neuralrohrdefekte praktisch vollständig vermieden werden können, wenn die Mutter ausreichend mit dem Vitamin Folsäure versorgt wird.
Verschiedene ärztliche Standesorganisationen (u.a. die Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Pädiatrie und die Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe) und das Bundesamt für Gesundheit empfehlen allen Frauen, die schwanger werden wollen (oder könnten) bzw. die soeben schwanger geworden sind, neben einer folsäurereichen Nahrung zusätzlich jeden Tag 0,4 mg Folsäure einzunehmen.
Besonders wichtig ist die Folsäure für jene Frauen, die im Hinblick auf einen Kinderwunsch die «Pille» absetzen. Empfängnisverhütende Hormonpräparate senken den Folsäurespiegel im Körper und erhöhen damit das Risiko für das Kind.
Frauen, die schon einmal ein Kind mit offenem Rücken oder ähnlichen Störungen geboren haben oder in deren Verwandtschaft solche Fälle aufgetreten sind, sollten sicherheitshalber mit dem Arzt bzw. der Ärztin darüber sprechen.
Bei Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber dem Wirkstoff oder einem der Hilfsstoffe gemäss Zusammensetzung, oder bei perniziöser Anämie (einer seltenen Form von Blutarmut).
Folsäure kann die Wirkung bestimmter Mittel gegen Krämpfe (Epilepsie) abschwächen.
Bestimmte Mittel gegen Krämpfe (Epilepsie) können den Folsäurespiegel senken. Dies kann den Arzt bzw. die Ärztin veranlassen, die Dosierung der Folsäure zu erhöhen.
Alkoholische Getränke behindern die Aufnahme von Folsäure und können die Wirkung von Andreafol abschwächen. Verzichten Sie während der Behandlung möglichst auf Alkohol.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden!
Andreafol darf während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit in der angegebenen Dosierung eingenommen werden.
Erwachsene Frauen nehmen täglich 1 Tablette ein.
Die Einnahme erfolgt am besten vor einer Hauptmahlzeit mit etwas Flüssigkeit.
Die Einnahme sollte mindestens 4 Wochen vor der Empfängnis beginnen und 8 Wochen darüber hinaus fortgesetzt werden. Für jene, die vor der Empfängnis kein Folsäure-Präparat eingenommen haben, ist die Einnahme immer noch sinnvoll, wenn sie spätestens am 28. Tag nach Empfängnis begonnen wird.
Halten Sie sich an die in der Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt oder der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Andreafol auftreten:
In seltenen Fällen kann es zu allergischen Reaktionen kommen.
In sehr seltenen Fällen kann es zu Magen-Darm-Störungen kommen, u.a. bei hoher Dosierung.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Bei Raumtemperatur (15?25 °C) und vor Kindern geschützt aufbewahren.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
