Intron A enthält als Wirksubstanz Interferon alfa-2b. Interferone sind körpereigene Proteine (Eiweissstoffe). Sie verhindern zum einen, dass in den Körper eingedrungene Viren neue Zellen anstecken, zum anderen spielen sie eine wichtige Rolle bei der Aktivierung der körpereigenen Abwehr und bei der Kontrolle des Zellwachstums.
Ihr Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin verschreibt Ihnen Intron A zur Behandlung bestimmter Virusinfektionen, wie chronischer Hepatitis oder zur Behandlung spezieller Erkrankungen des Blutes, des Knochenmarks oder der Haut.
Intron A muss als Injektion verabreicht werden. Versuchen Sie nicht, sich eine Selbst-Injektion zu verabreichen, bevor Sie nicht von Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Ihrem Pflegepersonal über die Injektionstechnik informiert worden sind.
Bei einer Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber Interferonen oder einem der Bestandteile von Intron A.
Wenn Sie an einer Herzkrankheit, an Epilepsie, einer Beeinträchtigung des zentralen Nervensystems, einer Autoimmunerkrankung, einer Erkrankung der Schilddrüse, die sich nicht durch herkömmliche Therapiemassnahmen beherrschen lässt, oder an einer schweren Funktionsstörung der Leber und der Nieren leiden, dürfen Sie Intron A nicht anwenden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin, wenn Sie jemals wegen Depressionen oder anderer psychischer Störungen, Verwirrtheit oder Bewusstlosigkeit behandelt worden sind, oder Selbstmord- oder Mordgedanken hatten, oder einen Selbstmordversuch unternommen haben. Teilen Sie Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin den früheren Gebrauch von Suchtmitteln mit. Intron A kann frühere psychische Störungen oder Suchtverhalten erneut hervorrufen oder bestehende Probleme verstärken.
Wenn Sie eine Erkrankung der Nieren haben und/oder älter als 50 Jahre sind und Intron A in Kombination mit Arzneimitteln, die Ribavirin enthalten, einnehmen, sollte Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin Sie besonders sorgfältig auf einen Abfall der Anzahl Ihrer roten Blutkörperchen überwachen.Sie sollten unverzüglich Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin informieren, wenn bei Ihnen Atmungsstörungen im Zusammenhang mit Husten und Fieber auftreten, damit festgestellt werden kann, ob es sich um eine Lungenentzündung handelt. In diesem Falle wird Ihr Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin, wenn erforderlich, die Intron A Therapie unterbrechen.
Wenn Sie während der Einnahme von Intron A Symptome einer schweren allergischen Reaktion wie Anschwellen von Händen, Füssen, Fussknöchel, Gesicht, Lippen, Mund oder Rachen, was Schwierigkeiten beim Schlucken oder Atmen verursachen kann oder Nesselsucht oder Ohnmacht entwickeln, suchen Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin auf.
Wenn Sie eine ungewöhnliche Blutung oder einen Bluterguss feststellen, sollten Sie ebenfalls unverzüglich mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin in Kontakt treten, da die Blutgerinnungszeit unter der Intron A Therapie etwas verlängert wird.
Eine Langzeitanwendung von Intron A über mehrere Monate kann in seltenen Fällen zu Durchblutungsstörungen der Netzhaut führen. Falls bei Ihnen Sehbeschwerden auftreten, sollten Sie unverzüglich eine Augenkontrolle durchführen lassen.
Bei der gleichzeitigen Anwendung von Beruhigungs-, Schlafmitteln, starken Schmerzmitteln, Alkohol oder Einnahme von gerinnungshemmenden Substanzen (z.B. Heparin) ist besondere Vorsicht geboten.
Wenn Ihre Leberfunktion eingeschränkt ist, kann Intron A die Leber zusätzlich schädigen. Ihr Arzt wird daher Ihre Leberwerte in den ersten Wochen nach Behandlungsbeginn und danach halbjährlich kontrollieren.
Wenn Sie zeitgleich gegen HIV behandelt werden, beachten Sie bitte, dass im Zusammenhang mit einer hochaktiven antiretroviralen Therapie (HAART), einer HIV-Behandlung, Laktatazidose (Übersäuerung des Blutes) oder eine Verschlechterung der Leberfunktion auftreten können. Sofern Sie HAART erhalten, kann die zusätzliche Gabe von Intron A und Ribavirin das Risiko einer Laktatazidose und Leberversagen erhöhen. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird Sie auf Anzeichen und Symptome hierzu überwachen. Darüber hinaus können Patienten, die mit einer Intron A und Ribavirin-Kombinationstherapie und Zidovudin behandelt werden, möglicherweise ein erhöhtes Risiko haben, eine Anämie (niedrige Anzahl roter Blutkörperchen) zu entwickeln.
Teilen Sie Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin mit, wenn Sie jemals eine Herzattacke erlitten haben oder an Herzproblemen leiden.
Leiden Sie an einer Hautkrankheit wie Schuppenflechte (Psoriasis), könnte sich der Krankheitszustand während der Intron A Behandlung verschlechtern.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden (z.B. Asthma, Zuckerkrankheit), Allergien haben oder andere Medikamente (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen!
Zahn- und Zahnfleischerkrankungen, die zum Verlust der Zähne führen können, sind bei Patienten berichtet worden, die eine Kombinationstherapie aus Intron A und Ribavirin erhielten. Zusätzlich kann während einer langfristigen Behandlung mit der Kombination von Intron A und Ribavirin ein trockener Mund einen schädigenden Effekt auf die Zähne und die Mundschleimhaut haben. Sie sollten Ihre Zähne zweimal täglich gründlich putzen und regelmässige zahnärztliche Untersuchungen durchführen lassen. Zusätzlich können einige Patienten an Erbrechen leiden. Wenn dies bei Ihnen auftritt, sollten Sie danach den Mund gründlich ausspülen.
Wenn Sie schwanger sind oder es werden möchten, sollten Sie Intron A ausschliesslich nach Rücksprache mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin anwenden.
Wenn Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin Ihnen Intron A in Kombination mit Ribavirin verschreibt, lesen Sie bitte auch die Hinweise zu Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit in der Patienteninformation von Ribavirin.
Intron A muss als Injektion verabreicht werden. Die Entscheidung, ob Sie Intron A selbst injizieren dürfen, wird von Ihrem behandelnden Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin bestimmt. Lassen Sie sich bitte von ihm oder der Krankenschwester genau über die geeignete Injektionstechnik informieren. Bitte befolgen Sie genau die Anweisungen Ihres Arzt oder Ihrer Ärztin. Nur er kann die erforderliche Dosierung, die Injektionstechnik und die notwendige Behandlungsdauer genau bestimmen.
Die Injektion von Intron A ist in der Broschüre «Leitfaden zur Selbstverabreichung für Patienten und Angehörige» anhand von Farbbildern beschrieben. Dort können Sie alles nochmals nachlesen. Sie erhalten diese Broschüre von Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder direkt von der Vertriebsfirma.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Medikament wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Sollten Sie eine Injektion vergessen haben, gleichen Sie dies nicht dadurch aus, dass Sie beim nächsten Mal die doppelte Dosis injizieren.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Kombinationsbehandlung mit Intron A und Ribavirin oder bei der Behandlung mit Intron A alleine auftreten:
Einige Patienten können bei der Anwendung von Intron A alleine oder in Kombination mit Ribavirin Depressionen bekommen. Diese können sich durch Niedergeschlagenheit, Verwirrtheit, das Gefühl sich selber schaden zu wollen oder durch ungewohnte Schwierigkeiten beim Schlafen, Denken und Konzentrieren äussern. In seltenen Fällen traten Selbstmordgedanken, Selbstmordversuch, aggressives Verhalten (manchmal gegen andere Personen gerichtet) oder Mordgedanken auf. Einzelne Patienten haben tatsächlich Selbstmord begangen. Begeben Sie sich umgehend in ärztliche Behandlung, wenn Sie Depressionen entwickeln oder Selbstmordgedanken haben oder Änderungen in Ihrem Verhalten bemerken. Sie sollten ein Familienmitglied oder einen nahen Freund bitten, Ihnen dabei zu helfen, aufmerksam auf Anzeichen von Depressionen oder Änderungen in Ihrem Verhalten zu achten.
Sprechen Sie umgehend mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin, wenn eine der folgenden Nebenwirkungen auftritt:
Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird möglicherweise eine Blutuntersuchung vornehmen, um sich zu vergewissern, dass die Zahl der Leukozyten (Zellen für die Bekämpfung von Infektionen), der roten Blutzellen (Zellen, die den Sauerstoff transportieren) und der Thrombozyten (Gerinnungszellen) sowie andere Blutwerte einen normalen Wert haben.
Andere Nebenwirkungen, die bei der Kombinationsbehandlung mit Intron A und Ribavirin oder bei der Behandlung mit Intron A alleine auftreten können:
Sehr häufig berichtete Nebenwirkungen (mind. 1 von 10 Patienten): Grippeähnliche Symptome wie Fieber, Schüttelfrost, Müdigkeit, Kopfschmerzen, Muskelschmerzen, Appetitlosigkeit, Übelkeit, Veränderungen der Blutwerte. Einige Kinder zeigten eine Abnahme ihrer Wachstumsrate (Körpergrösse und Körpergewicht).
Gelegentlich berichtete Nebenwirkungen (mind. 1 von 1000 Patienten, jedoch weniger als 1 von 100 Patienten): Erhöhte Leberwerte, veränderte Schilddrüsenfunktion, Haarausfall, tiefer Blutdruck, Erbrechen, Durchfall, Mundtrockenheit, Geschmacksveränderungen, Schwindel, Reizbarkeit, Schlaflosigkeit, Zittern, Gelenkschmerzen, Knochenschmerzen, Schwächegefühl, vermehrtes Schwitzen.
Selten berichtete Nebenwirkungen (mind. 1 von 10'000 Patienten, jedoch weniger als 1 von 1000 Patienten): Bauchschmerzen, Schmerzen im oberen rechten Rippenbereich, Gewichtsverlust, gesteigerter Appetit, dünner Stuhl, Verstopfung, Herzrasen oder verlangsamter Herzschlag, Bluthochdruck, Migräne, Nervosität, Angstzustände, Bewusstseinstrübung, Koma, Beinkrämpfe, Husten, Halsschmerzen, verstopfte oder laufende Nase, Entzündung der Nebenhöhlen, Lungenentzündung, Virusinfektionen, Fieberblasen, Veränderungen an der Injektionsstelle, Hautausschlag, Jucken, geschwollenes Gesicht, Hauttrockenheit, Psoriasis, Hautrötung, Rötung oder Entzündung im Bereich des Mundes oder der Zunge, Zahnfleischbluten, Augenprobleme (Bindehautentzündung, verschwommenes Sehen, Netzhautblutungen etc.), Nierenfunktionsstörungen, Leberfunktionsstörungen, Menstruationsstörungen, vermindertes Interesse am Sex und vorübergehende Impotenz.
Sehr selten berichtete Nebenwirkungen (weniger als 1 von 10'000 Patienten): Diabetes, Entzündung des Darms und der Bauchspeicheldrüse, Herzinfarkt, Ohrenschmerzen, Netzhautablösung, Nierenversagen, Leberversagen, aplastische Anämie (Blutarmut infolge Verminderung des blutbildenden Knochenmarks), Erythroblastopenie (Erkrankung, bei der der Körper gar keine oder vermindert rote Blutkörperchen produziert, was sich unter anderem durch ungewöhnliche Müdigkeit äussert), Lungenfibrose (Erkrankung des Lungengewebes).
Zusätzlich wurde über folgende Nebenwirkungen berichtet: Schwere allergische Reaktionen wie toxisch epidermale Nekrolyse, Stevens-Johnson-Syndrom und Erythema multiforme (ein Spektrum an Hautausschlägen mit variierendem Schweregrad einschliesslich Tod, der mit Bläschen im Mund, in der Nase, in den Augen und auf anderen Schleimhäuten sowie mit der Ablösung der betroffenen Hautareale verbunden sein kann), akute Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen einschliesslich Nesselsucht, Angioödemen (Anschwellen der Hände, Füsse, Knöchel, Gesicht, Lippen, Mund oder Rachen), Verengung der Atemwege und schwere allergische Reaktionen des ganzen Körpers (Anaphylaxie), entzündliche rheumatische Erkrankungen, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada-Syndrom (eine autoimmun-entzündliche Krankheit, die die Augen, die Haut und die Ohrmembranen sowie die Hirn- und Rückenmarkshäute angreift), Pilzinfektionen, bakterielle Infektionen. Einige Kinder, die mit Intron A behandelt werden, könnten eine Wachstumshemmung aufweisen, die zu einer reduzierten Körperendgrösse führt.
Wird Intron A alleine angewendet, sind einige dieser Nebenwirkungen weniger wahrscheinlich oder einige sind gar nicht aufgetreten.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die nicht in dieser Packungsbeilage aufgeführt sind.
Intron A kann das Reaktionsvermögen so weit verändern, dass die Fähigkeit zur aktiven Teilnahme am Strassenverkehr oder zum Bedienen von Maschinen beeinträchtigt wird. Dies gilt in verstärktem Masse im Zusammenwirken mit Alkohol.
Das Präparat nicht in Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahren und nur bis zu dem auf der Faltschachtel mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwenden.
Intron A ist im Kühlschrank (2-8 °C) aufzubewahren.
Allfällige Reste der Injektionslösung sind nach Anbruch der Durchstechflasche zu verwerfen.
Der Pen mit Intron A Injektionslösung muss bei 2-8 °C (Kühlschrank) aufbewahrt werden und sollte nicht eingefroren werden. Jeder Pen ist für eine maximale Verwendungsdauer von 4 Wochen vorgesehen und muss danach ersetzt werden. Falls das Präparat nach dem ersten Öffnen versehentlich bei Raumtemperatur aufbewahrt wurde (unter 30 °C), sollte es so schnell wie möglich in den Kühlschrank zurückgelegt werden. Während der 4-wöchigen Verwendungsdauer darf der Pen nicht länger als gesamthaft 48 Stunden (2 Tage) bei Raumtemperatur (unter 30 °C) gelagert werden.

1 Durchstechflasche (Einzeldosis) enthält 10 Millionen Internationale Einheiten an Interferon alfa-2b gelöst in 1 ml steriler, albuminfreier, mit m-Kresol konservierter, wässriger Lösung.
1 Pen (vorgefüllter Injektor) enthält entweder 18, 30 oder 60 Millionen Internationale Einheiten an Interferon alfa-2b in einer sterilen, albuminfreien, mit m-Kresol konservierten, wässrigen Lösung von 1,2 ml.
