Xyzal ist bei der Basisbehandlung von allergischen Erkrankungen wirksam. Es blockiert die Wirkung von Histamin, das bei allergischen Reaktionen im Körper freigesetzt wird. Xyzal wird bei Erwachsenen und Kindern ab 6 Jahren eingesetzt zur Behandlung von allergischen Erkrankungen, wie Heuschnupfen, allergischer Schnupfen und allergische Bindehautentzündung sowie chronische Nesselsucht (die oft mit Juckreiz einhergeht).
Kinder von 2 bis 6 Jahren, die an Heuschnupfen leiden, können auch mit Xyzal behandelt werden.
Xyzal ist in Form von Tabletten oder Tropfen erhältlich. Für die Behandlung von Kindern von 2 bis 6 Jahren wird der Einsatz von Xyzal Tropfen empfohlen, da mit den Filmtabletten die Dosis nicht genau angepasst werden kann.
Xyzal Filmtabletten und Tropfen werden auf Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin angewendet.
Patienten oder Patientinnen, die gegen den Wirkstoff, anderen damit strukturverwandten Substanzen oder einem sonstigen Bestandteil von Xyzal überempfindlich sind, dürfen das Präparat nicht anwenden; Patienten und Patientinnen mit Galaktosämie (seltene Stoffwechselstörung, bei der sich zuviel Galaktose im Blut befindet) oder schwerer Laktoseintoleranz (Unvermögen, den mit der Nahrung aufgenommenen Milchzucker richtig zu verdauen) sollten die Tabletten nicht einnehmen, da sie Laktose enthalten.
Patienten oder Patientinnen mit schwerer Niereninsuffizienz (Kreatinin Clearance <10 ml/min) dürfen Xyzal nicht einnehmen.
Kinder unter 2 Jahren sollten nicht mit Xyzal behandelt werden.
Wechselwirkungen von Xyzal mit anderen Arzneimitteln sind nicht bekannt. Jedoch sollte während der Behandlung mit Xyzal auf die Einnahme von Alkohol verzichtet werden, da die Wirkung verstärkt werden kann.
Beim Lenken eines Motorfahrzeuges oder beim Bedienen von Maschinen ist Vorsicht geboten, da Xyzal zu vermehrter Schläfrigkeit führen kann.
Wenn Sie prädisponiert sind zur Harnretention (Unvermögen, die Harnblase spontan zu entleeren), zum Beispiel bei Rückenmarkverletzung oder bei vergrösserter Prostata, informieren Sie bitte Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin.
Xyzal Filmtabletten enthalten Laktose.
Xyzal Tropfen enthalten Methyl-4-hydroxybenzoat (E 218) und Propyl-4-hydroxybenzoat (E 216).
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbst gekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden.
In sehr begrenzten klinischen Studien und in Tierversuchen sind keine unerwünschten Wirkungen festgestellt worden. Dennoch sollte Xyzal ? wie andere Arzneimittel ? während der Schwangerschaft nicht eingenommen werden. Sollten Sie Xyzal während der Schwangerschaft versehentlich eingenommen haben, ist eine schädigende Wirkung für das ungeborene Kind nicht zu erwarten, dennoch sollte die Behandlung sofort abgesetzt werden. Sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Ärztin, wenn Sie schwanger sind oder es werden möchten.
Während der Stillzeit darf Xyzal nicht eingenommen werden, da davon auszugehen ist, dass der Wirkstoff in die Muttermilch übergeht.
Die übliche Dosierung beträgt 1 Filmtablette oder 20 Tropfen täglich.
Bei Kindern von 6 bis 12 Jahren sollte die Dosierung auf zwei Einnahmen (je eine halbe Tablette oder 10 Tropfen morgens und abends) verteilt werden.
Die empfohlene Tagesdosis beträgt 2,5 mg und soll auf zwei Einnahmen (je 5 Tropfen morgens und abends) verteilt werden.
Die Einnahme von Xyzal kann zu oder unabhängig von den Mahlzeiten erfolgen. Die Filmtablette sollte unzerkaut mit Flüssigkeit eingenommen werden.
Die Behandlungsdauer richtet sich nach Art, Dauer und Verlauf der Beschwerden und wird vom Arzt oder von der Ärztin bestimmt.
Patienten oder Patientinnen mit eingeschränkter Nierenfunktion (Niereninsuffizienz) erhalten gegebenenfalls eine geringere Dosis, die sich nach dem Schweregrad der Nierenerkrankung richtet und von Ihrem Arzt oder Ihrer Ärztin festgelegt wird.
Sollten Sie eine Einnahme vergessen, setzen Sie die Behandlung einfach fort. Nehmen Sie bitte keine doppelte Dosis ein, um die vergessene Einnahme nachzuholen.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Xyzal auftreten: Müdigkeit und Schläfrigkeit, Mundtrockenheit, Kopfschmerzen und Kraftlosigkeit (Erschöpfung). In Einzelfällen wurde auch über Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen (Schwellungen von Lippen, Zunge, Augenlidern, Juckreiz, entzündliche Hautausschläge), Lichtempfindlichkeit der Haut, Ödeme, Parästhesie (Fehlempfindung des Hautsinnes in Form von «Kribbeln», «Ameisenlaufen» etc.), Magen-Darmstörungen, Herzklopfen, Krämpfe, Bauchschmerzen, Sehstörungen, Muskelschmerzen, aggressives oder unruhiges Verhalten, Schlaflosigkeit, Selbstmordgedanken, Leberentzündung, Leberfunktionsstörungen, Erbrechen, erhöhter Appetit, Halluzinationen, Depression, Schwindel, Zittern, Bewusstlosigkeit, Störungen des Geschmacksempfindens, Gewichtszunahme, Harndrang und Harnretention berichtet.
Methylparahydroxybenzoat und Propylparahydroxybenzoat, welche in den Tropfen enthalten sind, können (möglicherweise verzögert) allergische Reaktionen hervorrufen.
Beim Lenken eines Motorfahrzeuges oder beim Bedienen von Maschinen ist Vorsicht geboten.
Vorsicht ist geboten, wenn Xyzal zusammen mit Alkohol eingenommen wird.

Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.

1 Filmtablette enthält 5 mg des Wirkstoffes Levocetirizin-Dihydrochlorid, Laktose und andere Hilfsstoffe.
1 ml Tropfenlösung (entsprechend 20 Tropfen) enthält 5 mg des Wirkstoffes Levocetirizin-Dihydrochlorid. Die Tropfen enthalten als Konservierungsmittel Methyl- und Propylparaben (E 218, E 216), den Süssstoff Saccharin und andere Hilfsstoffe.
