Ebixa wird zur symptomatischen Behandlung von Patienten und Patientinnen mit mittelschwerer bis schwerer Alzheimer-Krankheit angewendet.
Der Gedächtnisverlust, der mit der Alzheimer-Krankheit einhergeht, wird durch eine Störung der Signalübertragung im Gehirn verursacht. Im Gehirn finden sich so genannte NMDA-Rezeptoren, die an der Übertragung der Nervensignale beteiligt sind, die für das Lernen und die Erinnerung wichtig sind. Memantin, der Wirkstoff von Ebixa, gehört zu einer Gruppe von Arzneimitteln, die als NMDA-Rezeptorantagonisten bezeichnet werden. Memantin wirkt an diesen NMDA-Rezeptoren und verbessert die Übertragung der Nervensignale und damit das Gedächtnis.
Ebixa darf nur auf Verschreibung des Arztes bzw. der Ärztin verwendet werden.
Ebixa soll unter gewissen Bedingungen nur mit Vorsicht angewendet werden. Deshalb sollten Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin darüber informieren,
Wenn Sie an einer Funktionsstörung der Nieren leiden, muss Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin Ihre Nierenfunktion sorgfältig überwachen und wenn nötig die Dosierung von Ebixa entsprechend anpassen.
Die gleichzeitige Anwendung von Arzneimitteln zur Behandlung von Parkinson mit dem Wirkstoff Amantadin und Arzneimitteln zur Anästhesie mit dem Wirkstoff Ketamin sowie ähnlich wirksamen Arzneimitteln sollte vermieden werden.
Insbesondere folgende Wirkstoffe können in ihrer Wirkung durch die Einnahme von Ebixa beeinflusst werden, wodurch eine Anpassung ihrer Dosis durch Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin erforderlich sein kann:
Wenn Sie in ein Krankenhaus aufgenommen werden, informieren Sie den dortigen Arzt bzw. die Ärztin, dass Sie Ebixa einnehmen.
Die Anwendung von Ebixa bei Kindern und Jugendlichen unter 18 Jahren wird nicht empfohlen.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fahrtüchtigkeit und die Fähigkeit, Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen, beeinträchtigen!
Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird Sie darüber informieren, ob Ihre Krankheit es Ihnen erlaubt, gefahrlos ein Fahrzeug zu führen oder Maschinen zu bedienen.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin, wenn Sie Ihre Ernährung kürzlich grundlegend umgestellt haben (z.B. von normaler Kost auf streng vegetarische Kost) oder wenn Sie dies vorhaben, wenn Sie unter einer renalen tubulären Azidose (RTA, ein Überschuss an säurebildenden Substanzen im Blut aufgrund einer Störung der Nierenfunktion) oder unter einer schweren Infektion des Harntrakts leiden. Unter diesen Umständen muss Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin möglicherweise die Dosierung Ihres Arzneimittels anpassen.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie
Teilen Sie Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin mit, wenn Sie schwanger sind oder schwanger werden möchten. Die Anwendung von Ebixa bei schwangeren Frauen wird nicht empfohlen.
Frauen, die Ebixa einnehmen, dürfen nicht stillen.
Nehmen Sie Ebixa immer genau nach Anweisung Ihres Arztes bzw. Ihrer Ärztin ein. Damit das Arzneimittel bei Ihnen optimal wirken kann, sollten Sie es regelmässig jeden Tag einnehmen. Bitte fragen Sie bei Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin nach, wenn Sie sich nicht ganz sicher sind.
Die empfohlene Dosis von Ebixa bei Erwachsenen und älteren Patienten bzw. Patientinnen beträgt 20 mg/Tag in Tablettenform. Um das Risiko von Nebenwirkungen zu verringern, wird diese Dosis schrittweise nach dem folgenden täglichen Behandlungsplan erreicht:
Woche 1 (Tag 1-7): Einmal täglich 5 mg (1 Filmtablette à 5 mg).
Woche 2 (Tag 8-14): Einmal täglich 10 mg (1 Filmtablette à 10 mg).
Woche 3 (Tag 15-21): Einmal täglich 15 mg (1 Filmtablette à 15 mg).
Woche 4 (Tag 22-28): Einmal täglich 20 mg (1 Filmtablette à 20 mg).
Ab der vierten Woche kann die Behandlung mit der empfohlenen Erhaltungsdosis von 20 mg täglich (1 Filmtablette) fortgesetzt werden.
Zur einfachen Dosistitration steht eine Starterpackung mit Filmtabletten für die ersten 4 Behandlungswochen zur Verfügung.
Wenn Ihre Nierenfunktion eingeschränkt ist, entscheidet der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin über eine Dosierung, die Ihrem Krankheitszustand entspricht. In diesem Fall sollte Ihre Nierenfunktion in regelmässigen Abständen durch Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin überwacht werden.
Ebixa sollte einmal täglich oral eingenommen werden. Die Filmtabletten sollten mit etwas Wasser geschluckt und können mit oder ohne Nahrung eingenommen werden.
Setzen Sie die Einnahme von Ebixa fort, solange das Arzneimittel Ihnen hilft und bei Ihnen keine unannehmbaren Nebenwirkungen auftreten. Die Behandlung sollte regelmässig durch einen Arzt bzw. eine Ärztin beurteilt werden.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Ebixa auftreten: Im Allgemeinen sind die beobachteten Nebenwirkungen leicht bis mittelschwer. Die häufigsten Nebenwirkungen sind Kopfschmerzen, erhöhter Blutdruck, Schläfrigkeit, Kurzatmigkeit, Verstopfung, Schwindel, Arzneimittelüberempfindlichkeitsreaktionen und Gleichgewichtsstörungen.
Weniger häufig wurden Müdigkeit, Verwirrtheit, Erbrechen, Gangstörung und Halluzinationen (diese hauptsächlich bei Patienten mit schwerer Alzheimer-Krankheit) beobachtet. Gelegentlich traten Venenthrombose/Thromboembolie (akuter Gefässverschluss durch verschleppten Blutpfropf), Herzschwäche, Pilzinfektionen und erhöhte Werte bei Leberfunktionstests auf. Sehr selten wurden Krampfanfälle, psychotische Reaktionen, Entzündung der Bauchspeicheldrüse oder der Leber gemeldet.
Die Alzheimer-Krankheit wird mit Depression, Suizidgedanken und Suizid in Verbindung gebracht. Seit Markteinführung wurden solche Ereignisse bei Patienten unter Ebixa berichtet.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Arzneimittel sind für Kinder unzugänglich aufzubewahren.
Die Filmtabletten sollen in der Originalpackung nicht über 30 °C gelagert werden.
Die Filmtabletten dürfen nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin. Diese Personen verfügen über die ausführliche Fachinformation.
Der Wirkstoff von Ebixa heisst Memantinhydrochlorid.
Filmtabletten zu 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg und 20 mg Memantinhydrochlorid.
Die sonstigen Bestandteile sind:
Die Filmtabletten zu 10 mg enthalten zusätzlich den Farbstoff gelbes Eisenoxid (E172), diejenigen zu 15 und 20 mg die Farbstoffe gelbes Eisenoxid (E172) und rotes Eisenoxid (E172).
5 mg: weiss bis gebrochen weiss, länglich oval; Aufdruck «5» auf der einen bzw. «MEM» auf der anderen Seite.
10 mg: blass gelb bis gelb, länglich oval; Aufdruck «10» auf der einen bzw. «M M» auf der anderen Seite, mit je einer Bruchrille.
15 mg: orange, länglich oval; Aufdruck «15» auf der einen bzw. «MEM» auf der anderen Seite.
20 mg: blassrot, länglich oval; Aufdruck «20» auf der einen bzw. «MEM» auf der anderen Seite.
