Aromasin enthält den Wirkstoff Exemestan und hemmt das Enzym Aromatase, welches an der Bildung der weiblichen Geschlechtshormone, der Östrogene beteiligt ist. Eine Rolle spielt es insbesondere bei Frauen nach der Menopause (Wechseljahre). Unter Behandlung mit Aromasin kommt es zu einer deutlichen Senkung der Östrogene und damit zu einem verminderten Wachstumsreiz auf die Krebszellen bei Brustkrebs. Aromasin wird eingesetzt zur Behandlung des fortgeschrittenen Brustkrebses bei Frauen nach der Menopause, wenn eine andere den Hormonhaushalt beeinflussende Therapie nicht ausreichend gewirkt hat. Gemeint sind Frauen, bei denen die Menopause natürlich eingetreten ist oder auch künstlich herbeigeführt wurde. Aromasin wird auch bei Frauen nach der Menopause eingesetzt, bei denen der Brustkrebs im frühen Stadium entdeckt und operiert wurde und die danach 2 Jahre oder länger mit Tamoxifen behandelt wurden.
Das Präparat darf nur auf Verordnung des Arztes oder der Ärztin eingenommen werden.
Unter einer längeren Behandlung mit Aromasin kann es zu einer Abnahme des Knochenmineralgehaltes kommen. Der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin wird diesen deshalb regelmässig kontrollieren und Ihnen gegebenenfalls ein Arzneimittel zur Prophylaxe oder zur Behandlung einer Osteoporose verschreiben.
Wegen einer hohen Verbreitung von Vitamin D Mangelerscheinung bei Frauen mit Brustkrebs wird Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin möglicherweise Ihren Vitamin D Spiegel kontrollieren und bei Bedarf eine Vitamin-D-Supplementierung verschreiben.
Wechselwirkungen mit anderen Arzneimitteln: Aromasin soll nicht zusammen mit östrogenhaltigen Arzneimitteln (z.B. Hormonersatztherapie) eingenommen werden, da diese die Wirkung von Aromasin aufheben würden.
Aromasin Dragées enthalten den Zucker Saccharose. Informieren Sie daher vor der Einnahme Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin, wenn Sie an Fructose-Intoleranz, Saccharase-Isomaltase Mangel oder Glucose-Galactose-Malabsorption (seltene Stoffwechselkrankheiten) leiden.
Da es unter der Anwendung von Aromasin zu unerwünschten Wirkungen wie Schwindel, Müdigkeit und Erbrechen kommen kann, ist beim Lenken von Fahrzeugen und Bedienen von Maschinen Vorsicht geboten.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie
Aromasin ist nur für Frauen nach der Menopause bestimmt und darf während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit nicht eingenommen werden.
Die empfohlene Dosis ist ein Dragée täglich (25 mg). Die Dragées sollen nach einer Mahlzeit immer ungefähr zur selben Tageszeit eingenommen werden. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird Ihnen erklären, wie lange Sie Aromasin einnehmen sollen.
Sollten Sie ins Spital eintreten müssen, informieren Sie Ihren Stationsarzt bzw. Ihre Stationsärztin über die Behandlung mit Aromasin.
Wenn Sie einmal vergessen haben, ein Aromasindragée einzunehmen, so nehmen Sie es in dem Moment, in dem Sie sich daran erinnern. Nehmen Sie das nächste Dragée zur üblichen Einnahmezeit ein.
Wenn Sie aus Versehen zu viele Dragées eingenommen haben, melden Sie sich sofort bei Ihrem Arzt oder Ihrer Ärztin oder begeben Sie sich sofort in das nächstgelegene Spital.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Die meisten unerwünschten Wirkungen, welche bei mit Aromasin behandelten Patientinnen beobachtet werden, lassen sich auf den Östrogenentzug zurückführen (z.B. Hitzewallungen, Gelenkschmerzen, Müdigkeit und Übelkeit).
Hitzewallungen, starkes Schwitzen, Müdigkeit, Schlafstörungen, Übelkeit, Bauchschmerzen, Gelenk- und Skelettmuskelschmerzen (wie z.B. Gliederschmerzen, Rückenschmerzen, Arthritis und Gelenksteife), Kopfschmerzen, Schmerzen allgemein, Schwindel, Depressionen.
Hautausschlag, Nesselsucht (Urtikaria), Juckreiz, Haarausfall, Appetitverlust oder -zunahme, Erbrechen, Durchfall, Verstopfung, Verdauungsstörungen, Osteoporose, Knochenbrüche, Karpaltunnelsyndrom (Schwund der Daumenballenmuskulatur mit Sensibilitätsstörungen in der Hand und den Fingern auf Grund eines Druckes auf den Nerv), Missempfindungen der Haut wie z.B. Kribbeln, Brennen, Taubheitsgefühl (Parästhesien), Bluthochdruck, Wassereinlagerung im Gewebe, z.B. in den Beinen.
Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen, Scheidenblutungen, Atemnot.
Leberentzündung (Hepatitis), akutes Auftreten von schwerwiegenden entzündlichen Hautrötungen mit Pusteln (akute generalisierte exanthematöse Pustulosis).
Falls während der Behandlung Symptome einer Leberentzündung auftreten wie allgemeines Unwohlsein, Übelkeit, Appetitlosigkeit, Gelbfärbung der Augen und/oder der Haut, Hautjucken und Bauchschmerzen (speziell im rechten Oberbauch), sollten Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin kontaktieren.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier beschrieben oder nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.

Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.

1 Dragée enthält 25 mg Exemestan. Es ist rund, bikonvex und weiss und hat die Prägung «7663» auf einer Seite.
Die Dragées enthalten zudem folgende Hilfsstoffe: Mannitol, Hypromellose, Polysorbat 80 (E433), Crospovidon, Siliciumdioxid-Hydrat, Carboxymethylstärke-Natrium Typ A, Magnesiumstearat. Überzug: Saccharose, Hypromellose, Simethicon, Macrogol 6000, leichtes basisches Magnesiumcarbonat, Titandioxid (E171), Polyvinylalkohol, Cetylestherwachs, Talk, Carnaubawachs, sowie das Konservierungsmittel Methyl-p-hydroxybenzoat (E218).
