Der wirksame Bestandteil von Carnitene sigma-tau ist L-Carnitin, eine für die normale Muskelarbeit und die Gewinnung von Energie aus den zugeführten Nahrungsfetten unentbehrliche, im Körper vorkommende Substanz.
Bei Carnitinmangel kommt es stoffwechselbedingt zu Muskelschwäche und anderen schweren Mangelerscheinungen, und das nicht abgebaute Fett kann im Muskel zu krankhaften Ablagerungen der nicht verwertbaren Fettstoffe führen.
Carnitene sigma-tau ist auf Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin erhältlich und wird bei Mangel an Carnitin verwendet.
Bei Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber dem Wirkstoff oder einem Hilfsstoff.
Sirup
Patienten mit bekannter Sorbitol-Überempfindlichkeit (Fructose-Intoleranz) sowie Patienten, die zu Durchfall neigen, sollten den Sirup nicht einnehmen. Der Sirup enthält ausserdem p-Hydroxybenzoesäureester zur Konservierung. Bei Überempfindlichkeit gegen diese Stoffe kann auf die Kautabletten ausgewichen werden.
Trinklösung
Die Trinklösung zu 1 g/10 ml enthält Natriumbenzoat (E 211). Bei Überempfindlichkeit gegen diesen Stoff kann auf die Kautabletten ausgewichen werden.
Patienten mit stark eingeschränkter Nierenfunktion und Dialysepatienten sollten Carnitene sigma-tau und andere orale Carnitinpräparate nicht über längere Zeit in hoher Dosis einnehmen, da sonst ein ?Fischgeruch? im Urin, in der Atemluft oder im Schweiss auftreten kann. In diesen Fällen empfiehlt sich in Absprache mit Ihrem Arzt die Verwendung der Injektionslösung.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte!) einnehmen.
Das Arzneimittel kann während der Schwangerschaft und der Stillzeit auf ausdrückliche Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin verwendet werden.
Verwenden Sie es nach den Angaben Ihres Arztes bzw. Ihrer Ärztin. Die Dosierung variiert je nach Krankheit und die optimale Dosierung muss unter Einbezug verschiedener Faktoren von Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin festgelegt werden. Die üblicherweise verwendete Dosierung (pro Tag) beträgt:
Erwachsene und Kinder über 10 Jahre: 3 g/Tag
Kinder 5-10 Jahre: 2 g/Tag
Kleinkinder 0-4 Jahre: 1 g/Tag
Vorzugsweise nach Mahlzeiten einnehmen. Sollten Sie die Einnahme einmal vergessen haben, so können Sie diese am gleichen Tage nachholen. Eine regelmässige Einnahme ist aber wichtig. Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker, bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Carnitene sigma-tau auftreten:
Gelegentlich werden Übelkeit, Erbrechen, Durchfall oder Magenbeschwerden beobachtet. Es liegen einzelne Berichte von epileptischen Anfällen vor bei Patienten, denen L-Carnitin verabreicht wurde. Falls solche Beschwerden auftreten, konsultieren Sie Ihren Arzt, bevor Sie die Therapie fortsetzen.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Arzneimittel nicht in Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahren. Bei Raumtemperatur (15-25°C) und vor Licht geschützt lagern.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf der Packung mit «Verf./Exp.» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden. Geöffnete Sirupflaschen sind innerhalb von 2 Wochen zu verbrauchen. Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt oder Ihr Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin. Diese Personen verfügen über die ausführliche Fachinformation.
1 Kautablette enthält: L-Carnitin 1 g, Saccharose (Zucker) 1,8 g (= 30 kJ), Aromastoffe.
1 Flacon mit 10 ml Trinklösung enthält: L-Carnitin 1 g, Saccharin, Konservierungsmittel: Natriumbenzoat (E 211).
1 Messlöffel (= 3,3 ml Sirup) enthält: L-Carnitin 1 g, Saccharose (Zucker) ca. 0,09 g (= 1,5 kJ),
Sorbitol 0,23 g (= 2 kJ), Aromastoffe, Vanillin, Bergamottöl, Konservierungsmittel: Natrium-Propyl-p-hydroxybenzoat (E 217), Natrium-Methyl-p-hydroxybenzoat (E 219).
