Epiduo ist ein weisses bis sehr schwach gelbliches, lichtundurchlässiges Gel, welches für die Behandlung von Akne eingesetzt wird. Es enthält zwei Wirkstoffe, Adapalen und Benzoylperoxid, welche auf unterschiedliche Weise agieren.
Adapalen ist ein Retinoid und wirkt in der Haut spezifisch auf verschiedene Prozesse, die Akne verursachen.
Benzoylperoxid ist als antimikrobielle Substanz wirksam. Es hat auch eine aufweichende und abschuppende Wirkung auf die äussere Hautschicht, was für die Behandlung der Akne günstig ist.
Sie sollten Epiduo Gel nicht anwenden
-bei bekannter Überempfindlichkeit (Allergie) gegenüber Adapalen, Benzoylperoxid oder einem sonstigen Bestandteil von Epiduo,
-auf Hautstellen mit Schnittwunden oder Schrammen, und ekzematöse Haut,
-bei Kindern unter 12 Jahren.
Beim Auftragen auf das Gesicht darf Epiduo nicht auf Schleimhäute (in Augen, Nase oder Mund) gelangen; sonstige sehr empfindliche Körperteile sollten ebenfalls vermieden werden.
Sie sollten gleichzeitig keine weiteren Präparate zur Behandlung der Akne anwenden, welche Benzoylperoxid und/oder Retinoide enthalten.
Eine übermässige Aussetzung dem Sonnenlicht oder UV-Lampen sollte vermieden werden.
Epiduo sollte nicht mit farbigem Material in Berührung kommen, inklusive Haar und gefärbte Stoffe, da dies zu Entfärbung oder Verfärbung führen kann.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbst gekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden!
Epiduo sollte während einer Schwangerschaft nicht angewendet werden. Falls Sie während der Therapie mit Epiduo schwanger werden, sollten Sie die Behandlung abbrechen und für weitere Betreuungsmassnahmen möglichst rasch Ihren Arzt darüber informieren.
Epiduo darf während der Stillzeit nicht angewendet werden. Bitten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin, bzw. Ihren Apotheker oder Ihre Apothekerin um benötigte Beratung bevor Sie das Arzneimittel anwenden.
Epiduo sollte immer entsprechend den ärztlichen Anweisungen angewendet werden. Sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Ihrer Ärztin, bzw. mit Ihrem Apotheker oder Ihrer Apothekerin falls Sie Fragen betreffend der Behandlung haben sollten.
Das Gel wird 1× täglich, vor dem Schlafengehen, als eine dünne Schicht, gleichmässig auf die mit Akne befallenen Stellen aufgetragen. Ein Kontakt mit Lippen, Augen und Nasenschleimhaut muss dabei sorgfältig vermieden werden. Die Haut sollte vor dem Auftragen sauber und trocken sein. Nach der Applikation sollten Sie sich die Hände waschen.
Die Anwendung von übermässigen Epiduo-Mengen wird Ihre Akne nicht schneller behandeln, Ihre Haut kann aber dabei rot und gereizt werden.
Falls Sie das Auftragen von Epiduo vergessen haben sollten, darf nachträglich keine doppelte Menge zur Kompensierung eingesetzt werden.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Falls Sie bei der Anwendung von Epiduo Hautreizungen verspüren sollten, können Sie das Arzneimittel weniger oft benutzen oder die Therapie unterbrechen, Ihr Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin muss jedoch darüber informiert werden.
Kontaktieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder ein Spital, falls das Arzneimittel irrtümlich eingenommen wurde.
Wie alle Arzneimittel kann Epiduo bei einigen Personen Nebenwirkungen erzeugen, gelegentlich treten unerwünschte Reaktionen an der Applikationsstelle auf.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen sind öfter (bei weniger als 1 von 10 Patienten) beobachtet worden: trockene Haut, lokal begrenzte Allergiereaktion (Kontaktdermatitis), übermässige Schuppenbildung und Abschilferung (Desquamation), Hautrötung (Erythem), Hautbrennen.
Selten (bei weniger als 1 von 100 Patienten) ist Hautreizung und Sonnenbrand festgestellt worden. Epiduo enthält Propylenglycol (E1520), dieser Inhaltstoff kann Hautreizung verursachen.
Mit einer unbekannten Häufigkeit (letztere kann anhand der vorliegenden Daten nicht abgeschätzt werden) können Gesichtsschwellung und allergische Hautentzündung auftreten.
Bei Hautirritation nach Anwendung von Epiduo ist deren Intensität meist mild bis mässig, mit lokalen Anzeichen (Rötung, trockene Haut, Hautabschuppung, Hautbrennen und Hautschmerzen (stechende Empfindungen), welche vor allem während der ersten Behandlungswoche auftreten und sich dann im Laufe der weiteren Behandlung zurückbilden.
Falls eine der oben beschriebenen Nebenwirkungen stark ausgeprägt sein sollte oder wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker, bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Das Arzneimittel ist in der Originalverpackung bei Raumtemperatur (15?25 °C) und ausser Reichweite von Kindern aufzubewahren. Es darf nur bis zu dem auf der Packung mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
