Hämorrhoiden sind meist von Symptomen wie Schmerzen, Bluten, Nässen und Juckreiz begleitet. Der Hauptwirkstoff von Faktu, das Policresulen, wirkt bei Hämorrhoiden nur auf krankes Gewebe, indem dieses abgestossen wird, während gesundes Gewebe unbeeinflusst bleibt. Wundflächen werden abgedeckt, kleine Blutgefässe zusammengezogen und verschlossen. Dadurch hören Blutungen in kürzester Zeit auf, und Nässen und Brennen verschwinden. Ausserdem setzt eine verstärkte Durchblutung ein, die den Heilungsvorgang beschleunigt. Die bakterienabtötende Wirkung von Faktu verhindert die Ansiedlung von Krankheitserregern und verhindert bzw. beseitigt Entzündungen. Das Oberflächenanästhetikum Cinchocain lindert den Schmerz und den Juckreiz. Faktu Suppositorien dürfen nur auf ärztliche Verschreibung angewendet werden.
Es ist für einen regelmässigen Stuhlgang zu sorgen. Dazu gehört nebst genügend Flüssigkeit eine abwechslungsreiche Ernährung, die viel Faserstoffe, aber nur wenig schwer verdauliche Fette und keine scharfen Gewürze enthalten soll. Eine Analhygiene ist bei Hämorrhoidalbeschwerden besonders wichtig. Hierbei sollte der Darmausgang nach dem Stuhlgang zunächst mit einem weichen und saugfähigen Toilettenpapier vorsichtig gereinigt und anschliessend feucht nachgereinigt werden.
Faktu darf nicht angewendet werden bei Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber den Wirkstoffen Policresulen und Cinchocain sowie einigen Arzneimitteln zur örtlichen Betäubung (Lokalanästhetika) es sei denn, dass der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin dies ausdrücklich gestattet hat.
Bei Auftreten von allergischen Reaktionen ist die Behandlung zu unterbrechen und der Arzt/die Ärztin ist aufzusuchen. Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden.
Aufgrund der bisherigen Erfahrungen ist bei bestimmungsgemässer Anwendung kein Risiko für das Kind bekannt. Systematische wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen wurden aber nie durchgeführt. Vorsichtshalber sollten Sie während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit möglichst auf Arzneimittel verzichten oder den Arzt oder den Apotheker bzw. die Ärztin oder die Apothekerin um Rat fragen.
Erwachsene: Soweit nicht anders verordnet, wird 2- bis 3- mal täglich ein Suppositorium nach Entleerung in den Darm eingeführt. Nach Besserung der Beschwerden kann die Behandlung mit einem Suppositorium täglich fortgeführt werden.
Die Anwendung und Sicherheit von Faktu bei Kindern und Jugendlichen wurde bisher nicht geprüft.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Anwendung von Faktu auftreten:
Gelegentlich auftretende Missempfindungen (z.B. Brennen oder Juckreiz) sind wirkstoffbedingt und verschwinden meist nach kurzer Zeit.
In Einzelfällen können allergische Kontaktsensibilisierungen auftreten. Diese können sich äussern als entzündliche Rötungen der Haut mit Bläschenbildung, die mit länger anhaltendem Juckreiz einhergehen. In diesen Fällen ist die Behandlung zu unterbrechen und der Arzt oder die Ärztin aufzusuchen.
In Einzelfällen wurden allergische Reaktionen (z.B. Schwellungen in Gesicht und Rachen, Nesselfieber) berichtet. In diesen Fällen ist die Behandlung zu unterbrechen und der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin aufzusuchen.

Mögliche Schwankungen in der Färbung der Suppositorien sowie das Auftreten von hellen Flecken (Fettreifbildung) bei den Suppositorien sind unbedenklich und haben keinen Einfluss auf die Wirksamkeit.
Faktu Suppositorien dürfen nicht über 25°C gelagert werden.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit ?EXP? bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
