ferro sanol ist ein Eisenpräparat, welches zur Behandlung von Eisenmangel im Blut angewendet wird. Eisenmangelzustände können zum Beispiel entstehen bei hohem Blutverlust in der Schwangerschaft, im Wochenbett und beim Stillen, in der Wachstumsphase bei Kindern.
Zu den Anzeichen eines Eisenmangels gehören auffallende Blässe durch zu niedrigen Blutfarbstoff (Anämie), ungewöhnliche Müdigkeit oder Abnahme der körperlichen Leistungsfähigkeit.
Bevor Sie mit der Behandlung beginnen, sollte der zu niedrige Gehalt des Blutes an Eisen und an Blutfarbstoff (Hämoglobin) vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin durch entsprechende Untersuchungen bestätigt worden sein. Wenn die Blutarmut nicht durch Eisenmangel bedingt ist, ist das Präparat wirkungslos und kann zu einer Eisenüberladung führen. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird mittels Blutuntersuchungen den Fortschritt der Therapie verfolgen.
Wenn sich Ihre Beschwerden innerhalb von 3 Wochen nicht bessern, suchen Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin auf.
ferro sanol soll nicht eingenommen werden bei Überempfindlichkeit gegenüber einem Inhaltsstoff, bei Verengung der Speiseröhre oder Eisenanhäufung, bei Eisenverwertungsstörungen, bei «Blutarmut», die nicht auf Eisenmangel beruht, bei schweren Leber- und Nierenerkrankungen und bei wiederholten Bluttransfusionen.
ferro sanol Kapseln sind für Kinder unter 6 Jahren (mit dem Gewicht weniger als 20 kg) nicht geeignet.
Bei entzündlichen Magen- und Darmerkrankungen (z.B. Gastritis, Magen- oder Darmgeschwüre, Morbus Crohn, Colitis ulcerosa, Darmverengungen, Divertikel) sollten Sie Eisenpräparate nur mit Vorsicht und nach Rücksprache mit dem Arzt bzw. der Ärztin einnehmen.
Bei Blutarmut aufgrund chronischer Nierenerkrankung sollte Eisen intravenös zusammen mit Erythropoetin verabreicht werden und nicht ferro sanol Kapseln.
Während der Behandlung mit ferro sanol können Zahnverfärbungen auftreten, die nach Beendigung der Behandlung entweder von selbst verschwinden oder durch eine Dentalreinigung von Ihrem Zahnarzt bzw. Ihrer Zahnärztin entfernt werden können.
Bestimmte Antibiotika (Tetracycline und Chinolone), das Blutdruckmittel Methyldopa, Penicillamin, orale Goldverbindungen sowie das Schilddrüsenhormon Thyroxin werden bei gleichzeitiger Einnahme mit ferro sanol in ihrer Wirkung beeinträchtigt. Einige Mittel gegen Magenübersäuerung (Antazida), gegen zu hohe Blutfettwerte (Cholestyramin) sowie das Parkinsonmittel Levodopa können die Wirkung von ferro sanol herabsetzen, indem sie die Aufnahme von Eisen im Darm beeinträchtigen.
Die schleimhautreizende Wirkung im Magen und Darm kann durch Einnahme gewisser entzündungshemmender Mittel (z.B. Salizylaten, Phenylbutazon und Oxyphenbutazon) verstärkt werden.
Zwischen der Einnahme eines der obgenannten Arzneimittel und ferro sanol sollten deshalb mehrere Stunden liegen.
Bei gleichzeitiger Verabreichung des Antibiotikums Chloramphenicol kann die Wirkung der Eisentherapie verzögert einsetzen.
Chronischer Alkoholmissbrauch kann über eine Erhöhung der Eisenaufnahme zu einer Eisenüberladung führen. Sog. «Protonenpumpenhemmer», welche bei Reflux bzw. Magensäurenüberschuss angewendet werden, können die Absorption von oralem Eisen reduzieren.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbst gekaufte!) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden.
ferro sanol darf während Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit eingenommen werden.
Eisenmangel tritt häufig gerade unter diesen Umständen ein! Sie sollten jedoch unbedingt zuerst mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin sprechen, bevor Sie mit der Einnahme von ferro sanol beginnen.
Im Allgemeinen beträgt die übliche Dosis für Erwachsene und Kinder ab dem 6. Lebensjahr (min. 20 kg KG) 1 Kapsel täglich.
Bei ausgeprägtem Eisenmangel können von Erwachsenen ab 15 Jahren oder bei einem Körpergewicht von über 50 kg zu Beginn 2 Kapseln über den Tag verteilt eingenommen werden. Eine tägliche Dosis von 5 mg/kg Körpergewicht sollte nicht überschritten werden.
Kapseln unzerkaut mit genügend Wasser einnehmen. Die Einnahme sollte nüchtern oder mit zeitlichem Abstand zu den Mahlzeiten erfolgen, da die Resorption von Eisen durch Nahrungsbestandteile (pflanzliche Nahrung, Kaffee, Tee, Milch) verringert sein kann.
Falls Probleme beim Schlucken der Kapseln bestehen, kann der Inhalt der Kapsel auch ohne die Kapselhülle eingenommen werden. Hierzu zieht man mit beiden Händen die Kapselhülle über einem Esslöffel vorsichtig auseinander und sammelt die 300?400 kleinen Kügelchen in dem Löffel. Nach der Einnahme des Kapselinhalts mit dem Löffel soll genügend Wasser getrunken werden.

Der Blutfarbstoffgehalt des Blutes (Hämoglobin) sollte vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin regelmässig kontrolliert werden.
Halten Sie sich an die in der Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt oder der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme oder Anwendung von ferro sanol auftreten:
Es können Zahnverfärbungen, Blutungen des Magen-Darm-Traktes, Störungen im Magen-Darm-Bereich, Durchfall, Verstopfung, Magenschmerzen, Erbrechen, Übelkeit, Sodbrennen oder dunkle Verfärbung des Stuhls vorkommen.
Eine mögliche Schwarzfärbung des Stuhls während der Behandlung mit ferro sanol ist ohne Bedeutung.
Selten können Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen der Haut wie z.B. Entzündung, Rötung oder Nesselsucht auftreten.
Dies sind Zeichen einer Überempfindlichkeit (Allergie) auf das Präparat. In solchen Fällen sollten Sie ferro sanol nicht mehr einnehmen und den Arzt aufsuchen.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Da eine Packung mit 50 Kapseln ferro sanol eine Gesamtdosis Eisen enthält, die bei Kleinkindern bei versehentlicher Einnahme zu einer lebensbedrohlichen Vergiftung führen kann, muss dieses Arzneimittel unbedingt ausserhalb der Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahrt werden.
ferro sanol ist bei Raumtemperatur (15-25° C) zu lagern.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zum dem auf der Packung mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum eingenommen werden.
