Flagyl enthält einen Wirkstoff, der gegen Infektionen verursachende Bakterien und Einzeller wirkt. Die Erreger, die mit Flagyl bekämpft werden können, leben in sauerstoffarmer oder -freier Umgebung und befallen meistens die Geschlechtsorgane oder den Magen-Darm-Trakt.
Flagyl darf nur auf Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin angewendet werden.
Ihr Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin wird Ihnen Flagyl Filmtabletten verschreiben, wenn eine der folgenden Erkrankungen vorliegt: Befall der Geschlechtsorgane mit Gardnerella (unspezifische Vaginitis) oder Trichomonaden; Befall des Darmtraktes mit Lamblien; Befall von Darm und/oder Leber mit Amöben; Befall mit Bakterien, die in mehr oder weniger sauerstoffarmer Umgebung leben (anaerobe Bakterien).
Flagyl Ovula (= Vaginalzäpfchen) wird Ihnen Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin zur Unterstützung einer Behandlung mit Filmtabletten bei einem Trichomonadenbefall verschreiben.
Der Urin kann bei Einnahme von Flagyl dunkel gefärbt werden.
Infektionen im Genitalbereich sind übertragbare Erkrankungen. Bitte beachten Sie allgemeine Hygienemassnahmen wie regelmässige Körperpflege. Sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin über eine allfällige Partnerbehandlung.
Gleichzeitiger Gebrauch von Ortho®-Diaphragma und Präservativen zur Empfängnisverhütung mit Flagyl Ovula ist zu vermeiden, da einerseits die Oberfläche des Diaphragmas oder des Präservatives verändert und andererseits die heilende Wirkung von Flagyl beeinträchtigt werden könnte.
Dieses Arzneimittel wurde Ihnen von Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin zur Behandlung Ihrer gegenwärtigen Erkrankung verschrieben.
Flagyl ist nicht gegen alle Mikroorganismen, welche Infektionen verursachen, wirksam. Die Anwendung eines falsch gewählten oder nicht richtig dosierten Arzneimittels kann Komplikationen verursachen. Wenden Sie es deshalb nie von sich aus für die Behandlung anderer Erkrankungen oder anderer Personen an. Auch bei späteren neuen Infektionen dürfen Sie Flagyl nicht ohne erneute ärztliche Konsultationen anwenden.
Falls Sie auf den Wirkstoff von Flagyl oder andere Stoffe der gleichen chemischen Gruppe überempfindlich sind, dürfen Sie Flagyl nicht anwenden (Wirkstoff = Metronidazol; Gruppe = Imidazolderivate).
Während der Behandlung mit Flagyl und mindestens einen Tag danach, sollten Sie auf alkoholische Getränke und auf Arzneimittel, die Alkohol enthalten, verzichten, da die gleichzeitige Einnahme zu Erbrechen und Magenkrämpfen führt («Antabus-Effekt»). Nehmen Sie Flagyl nicht gleichzeitig mit dem Arzneimittel Antabus® ein.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fähigkeit Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen und die Fahrtüchtigkeit beeinträchtigen. Bei Anzeichen von unerwünschten Wirkungen wie Verwirrtheit, Schwindel, Halluzinationen, Krämpfe, vorübergehenden Sehstörungen sowie Störungen in der Bewegungskoordination sollten Sie nicht Auto fahren oder eine Maschine oder Werkzeuge bedienen.
Falls die Behandlung mit Flagyl wegen einer Infektion der Geschlechtsorgane erfolgt, ist der Geschlechtsverkehr zu vermeiden.
Beim Auftreten unerwünschter Wirkungen (vgl. Rubrik «Welche Nebenwirkungen kann Flagyl haben?») sollten Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin aufsuchen.
Bei einer Therapiedauer von mehr als 10 Tagen, bei Einnahme von hohen Dosen und bei Blutbildstörungen ist eine regelmässige ärztliche Kontrolle nötig.
Flagyl kann die Wirkung verschiedener Arzneimittel verstärken. Darunter fallen gewisse Arzneimittel zur Blutverdünnung und Ciclosporin. Epilepsiemittel (Phenytoin, Phenobarbital) können die Wirkung von Flagyl senken. Es können aber auch verschiedene Arzneimittel (u.a. Cimetidin, ein Mittel gegen Magenübersäuerung) die Wirkung von Flagyl verstärken. Eine gleichzeitige Lithiumtherapie kann zu unerwünschten Wirkungen führen. Sie ist deshalb vor Beginn der Behandlung mit Flagyl abzusetzen oder mit reduzierter Dosierung und nur unter strenger ärztlicher Überwachung fortzusetzen.
Erkrankungen des zentralen und peripheren Nervensystems können sich während der Therapie mit Flagyl verschlechtern.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin, wenn Sie an einer schweren Lebererkrankung leiden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden!
Systematische wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen wurden nie durchgeführt. Die Sicherheit einer Anwendung von Flagyl in der Schwangerschaft ist nicht ausreichend belegt. Während den ersten drei Monaten der Schwangerschaft darf Flagyl nicht angewendet werden. Während des zweiten und dritten Trimesters der Schwangerschaft dürfen Sie Flagyl nur anwenden, wenn der Arzt oder die Ärztin Ihnen das Arzneimittel ausdrücklich verschrieben hat.
Während der Anwendung von Flagyl soll nicht gestillt werden (bis zu 24 Stunden nach der letzten Anwendung von Flagyl).
Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird je nach Art der Krankheitserreger für Sie die Dosierung und Behandlungsdauer festlegen.
Für die Filmtabletten gelten folgende Dosierungen:
1. Infektion mit Gardnerella vaginalis: Es sind zwei Behandlungsarten möglich: entweder 2?3 mal täglich eine Filmtablette zu 500 mg während 5?7 Tagen oder 4 Filmtabletten zu 500 mg gleichzeitig am 1. Tag und 4 Filmtabletten zu 500 mg gleichzeitig am 3. Tag. Die gleiche Therapie ist für den Partner zu empfehlen.
2. Infektion mit Trichomonaden: Es sind zwei Behandlungsarten möglich: Einmaldosis-Therapie: 4 Filmtabletten zu 500 mg gleichzeitig, am besten abends einnehmen oder 10-Tages-Therapie: während 10 Tagen morgens und abends je 1 Filmtablette zu 250 mg einnehmen. Die gleiche orale Dosis (Filmtabletten) ist für den Partner zu empfehlen.
3. Infektion mit Lamblien: Behandlung an 5 aufeinanderfolgenden Tagen. Erwachsene: 3× täglich 1 Filmtablette zu 250 mg. Kinder: 15 mg Metronidazol pro kg Körpergewicht pro Tag, aufgeteilt in 3 Teildosierungen während den Mahlzeiten (eine andere, angepasste Darreichungsform ist erforderlich). Wenn es der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin als notwendig erachtet, so kann er bzw. sie die Kur nach 8 Tagen Pause wiederholen.
4. Infektion mit Amöben: Erwachsene: 3?4 mal täglich 1 Filmtablette zu 500 mg. Kinder: 40 mg pro kg Körpergewicht und Tag in 3?4 Teildosen (eine andere, angepasste Darreichungsform ist erforderlich). Behandlungsdauer: 7?10 Tage bei akuter Erkrankung.
5. Infektion mit anaeroben Bakterien: 3-mal täglich 1 Filmtablette zu 500 mg während im Allgemeinen mindestens 10 Tagen.
Für Ovula gilt folgende Dosierung:
Infektion mit Trichomonaden: Zur unterstützenden Behandlung der oralen Standardtherapie während 10 Tagen, während 10?20 Tagen abends je ein Ovulum zu 500 mg Metronidazol tief in die Vagina einführen.
Eine begonnene Antibiotika-Therapie sollte so lange wie vom Arzt oder der Ärztin verordnet durchgeführt werden. Die Krankheitssymptome verschwinden oft bevor die Infektion vollständig ausgeheilt ist. Eine ungenügende Anwendungsdauer oder ein zu frühes Beenden der Behandlung kann ein erneutes Aufflammen der Erkrankung zur Folge haben. Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme oder Anwendung von Flagyl auftreten:
Häufig: Übelkeit, Durchfall oder Bauchschmerzen.
Gelegentlich können leichte Magen-Darm-Beschwerden (Erbrechen), Appetitlosigkeit, Geschmackstörungen, Entzündungen der Mundschleimhaut auftreten.
Beim Auftreten von schwerem anhaltendem Durchfall sollten Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ärztin oder Apothekerin aufsuchen.
Als Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen können gelegentlich Hautausschlag, Juckreiz, Nesselsucht, Hautrötung mit Hitzegefühl, Fieber und sehr selten schwere allergische Reaktionen mit Schwellungen des Gesichtes, der Zunge, des Kehlkopfes, Herzklopfen, Atemnot, Blutdruckabfall (bis hin zum Kollaps und Schock) auftreten. Informieren Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin, falls solche Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen auftreten.
Häufig können Kopfschmerzen, gelegentlich Schwindelgefühle, Depression, Schlaflosigkeit, Schwächegefühl, Empfindlichkeitsstörungen wie Taubheits- oder Kribbelgefühl und Störungen in der Bewegungskoordination auftreten. Es wurde über seltene Fälle von depressiver Stimmung berichtet. Falls eine depressive Stimmung beobachtet wird, konsultieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin.
Selten können vorübergehende Sehstörungen (z.B. Doppeltsehen, Kurzsichtigkeit), Halluzinationen, Verwirrtheit und krampfartige Zustände auftreten. Informieren Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt oder Ihre Ärztin, falls solche Nebenwirkungen auftreten.
Sehr selten konnten abnorme Werte bei Leberfunktionstests gemessen, eine Bauchspeicheldrüsenentzündung oder eine durch Gallenstauung verursachte Leberentzündung beobachtet werden. Informieren Sie sofort Ihren Arzt, falls schwere Bauchkrämpfe, Übelkeit, Erbrechen oder Gelbsucht (Gelbfärbung der Haut und Augen) auftreten.
Bei Pilzbefall kann sich die Zunge verfärben und belegt anfühlen, und es kann zu einer örtlich begrenzten Nekrose der Haut kommen.
Selten kann es zu Blasenentzündung, erschwerter Harnentleerung, Harninkontinenz und Pilzbefall im Genitalbereich kommen.
Bei vaginaler Anwendung kann es zu vorübergehenden Reizungen kommen, die während der Behandlung dann abnehmen.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen beobachten, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Flagyl darf nur bis zu dem auf der Verpackung mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Arzneimittel ausser Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahren. Das Arzneimittel in der geschlossenen Originalpackung und vor Licht geschützt aufbewahren.
Die Tabletten sind zwischen 15 und 30 °C aufzubewahren,
Die Ovula sind bei Raumtemperatur (15-25 °C) aufzubewahren.
Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ärztin oder Apothekerin. Diese Personen verfügen über die ausführliche Fachinformation.
