Dieses Präparat hemmt den Abbau von Acetylcholin, einem natürlichen Überträgerstoff, zum Beispiel von Nervenimpulsen, auf die Muskulatur. Durch diese Abbauhemmung wird die Wirkung von Acetylcholin verstärkt, was eine Aktivierung der Muskulatur im Falle von krankhafter Muskelschwäche (und somit eine Leistungsverbesserung) sowie der Muskulatur bestimmter innerer Organe, wie des Darms, bewirkt. Die Wirkung von Mestinon retard tritt schonend ein, verläuft gleichmässig, dauert verhältnismässig lange an und klingt allmählich ab. Bei krankhafter Muskelschwäche (Myasthenia gravis pseudoparalytica) behebt Mestinon retard die Funktionsstörungen und lindert die Beschwerden.
Auf Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin.
Bei Mestinon retard handelt es sich um eine Tablette mit verzögerter Freisetzung des Wirkstoffes, um eine Wirkung über eine längere Zeit zu erzielen. Dies wird durch eine spezielle Trägersubstanz in der Tablette erreicht. Diese ist unverdaulich und kann als weisslicher Rückstand im Stuhl erscheinen. Dies ist völlig normal und bedeutet nicht, dass der Wirkstoff der Tablette unvollständig aufgenommen wurde.
Mestinon retard darf nicht angewendet werden
Bei folgenden Erkrankungen muss Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin das erhöhte Risiko für unerwünschte Wirkungen gegen den Nutzen der Behandlung besonders sorgfältig abwägen:
Es ist wichtig, dass Sie sich an die verschriebene Dosierung halten. Wenn bei Ihnen eine verstärkte Muskelschwäche auftritt, sollten Sie sich unverzüglich mit Ihrem Arzt oder Ihrer Ärztin in Verbindung setzen.
Teilen Sie Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin mit, wenn Sie gleichzeitig andere Arzneimittel einnehmen oder mit solchen behandelt werden, wie
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fähigkeit Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen und die Fahrtüchtigkeit beeinträchtigen.
Aufgrund der bisherigen Erfahrungen ist bei bestimmungsgemässer Anwendung kein Risiko für das Kind bekannt. Systematische wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen wurden aber nie durchgeführt. Vorsichtshalber sollten Sie während der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit möglichst auf Arzneimittel verzichten oder den Arzt oder den Apotheker bzw. die Ärztin oder die Apothekerin um Rat fragen.
Halten Sie sich strikt an die Dosierungsanweisungen Ihres Arztes bzw. Ihrer Ärztin. Schlucken Sie die Tabletten unzerkaut und trinken Sie etwa ein halbes bis ein Glas Wasser nach. Bei Schluckschwierigkeiten empfiehlt sich die Einnahme im Sitzen oder im Stehen. Die Retardtablette besitzt eine Bruchkerbe. Die Bruchkerbe dient nur zum Teilen der Tablette für ein erleichtertes Schlucken und nicht zum Aufteilen in gleiche Dosen. In kleinere Einheiten sollte die Retardtablette jedoch auch bei Schluckstörungen nicht zerkleinert werden, da sonst die verzögerte Wirkstoffabgabe in Frage gestellt wird. Nach der Einnahme von Mestinon retard tritt die volle Wirkung in der Regel innerhalb von 30 Minuten ein.
Zweimal täglich 1 bis 3 Retardtabletten. Grundsätzlich sind die Dosierung und die Häufigkeit der täglichen Einnahme abhängig vom Schweregrad der Erkrankung und dem Ansprechen auf die Behandlung. Beachten Sie die Anweisungen Ihres Arztes bzw. Ihrer Ärztin genau. Die oben genannten Mengen können unterschritten - oder in Einzelfällen überschritten werden. Bei der Umstellung von Mestinon Dragees zu 60 mg Wirkstoff auf Mestinon retard ist zu bedenken, dass Mestinon retard nicht stärker, sondern nur länger wirkt (6 bis 8 Stunden, gelegentlich auch länger, statt 2 bis 4 Stunden). Die Zahl der jeweils als Einzeldosis eingenommenen Tabletten bleibt gleich, nur werden die Retardtabletten innerhalb von 24 Stunden seltener eingenommen. Durch Infektionen oder andere belastende Faktoren kann die jeweils erforderliche Dosis von Mestinon retard Schwankungen unterworfen sein. Der behandelnde Arzt bzw. die behandelnde Ärztin sollte dann sofort zu Rate gezogen werden.
Bei Kindern müssen die Dosierungsanweisungen des Arztes bzw. der Ärztin besonders strikt eingehalten werden.
Wenn Sie auf Mestinon retard nicht in der erwarteten Weise ansprechen, kann dies auf zu niedriger, unter Umständen aber auch auf zu hoher Dosierung beruhen. Fragen Sie deshalb in solchen Fällen Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Mestinon retard auftreten:
Übelkeit, Erbrechen, gesteigerte Darmtätigkeit bis zu Bauchkrämpfen oder Durchfall, vermehrtem Auswurf, Speichel- und Tränenfluss, Sehstörungen, Muskelkrämpfen, Muskelzuckungen und Muskelschwäche, verminderte Muskelspannung, Herzrhythmusstörungen wie verlangsamter oder beschleunigter Puls, tiefer Blutdruck, Ohnmacht, Atembeschwerden bei vorbestehenden Lungenerkrankungen, Hautausschlag, vermehrtes Schwitzen, Harndrang sowie psychiatrische Störungen bei vorbelasteten Patienten. Sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin, wenn diese Nebenwirkungen bei Ihnen neu auftreten oder sich verstärken.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Das Präparat ist in der verschlossenen Originalpackung bei Raumtemperatur (15-25 °C) und für Kinder unzugänglich aufzubewahren.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
