Pretuval können Sie verwenden, wenn Sie eine Grippe oder eine Erkältung mit Fieber und Husten haben.
Die therapeutischen Eigenschaften von Pretuval lassen sich wie folgt zusammenfassen:
Pretuval ist ein Hustenmittel, das den Wirkstoff Dextromethorphan enthält. Dextromethorphan lindert übermässigen Hustenreiz. In einer den Empfehlungen entsprechenden Dosierung hält seine Wirkung im allgemeinen 6 oder mehr Stunden an. Pretuval wird zur Behandlung von Husten, insbesondere des trockenen Reizhustens angewendet.
Pretuval enthält ferner den Wirkstoff Pseudoephedrin, der das Laufen der Nase stoppt und das Atmen erleichtert. Es bringt die Nasen- und Bronchialschleimhäute zum Abschwellen und vermindert die übermässige Schleimproduktion.
Pretuval enthält zudem den Wirkstoff Paracetamol, welcher Fieber senkt und Kopf- und Gliederschmerzen lindert, wie sie bei Erkältungen und Grippe häufig auftreten.
Pretuval Filmtabletten sind nicht gesüsst und deshalb auch für Diabetiker bzw. Diabetikerinnen geeignet (1 Filmtablette enthält 3,25 kJ = 0,02 Obstwerte).
Tabakkonsum begünstigt den Husten («Raucherhusten»). Sie können die Wirkung von Pretuval unterstützen, indem Sie auf das Rauchen verzichten.
Wie alle Fieber- oder Schmerzmittel soll auch Pretuval nicht ohne Verordnung des Arztes/der Ärztin länger als 5 Tage oder bei Fieber länger als 3 Tage angewendet werden.
Bei Überempfindlichkeit gegen einen der Inhaltsstoffe. Während einer Behandlung mit gewissen Arzneimitteln gegen Gemütsstörungen (MAO-Hemmer, Serotoninwiederaufnahmehemmer und alle stimulierenden Arzneimittel).
Wenn Sie an schwerem Bluthochdruck, an schweren Herz-, Leber- oder Nierenkrankheiten oder Epilepsie leiden, dürfen Sie Pretuval nicht einnehmen.
In folgenden Fällen dürfen Sie Pretuval nicht anwenden:
? Bei Alkoholüberkonsum.
? Bei einer erblichen Leberstörung (sogenannte Meulengracht-Krankheit).
Falls Ihr Husten von Auswurf (Bronchialsekretion) begleitet ist, sollten Sie ohne ärztliche Abklärung und Verordnung kein hustenstillendes Arzneimittel einnehmen.
Pretuval darf nicht an Kinder unter 12 Jahren verabreicht werden.
Husten ist ein Abwehrmechanismus des Körpers, der bestimmte Ursachen hat. Wenn Ihr Husten mehr als eine Woche anhält, sollten Sie einen Arzt bzw. eine Ärztin aufsuchen, damit dieser bzw. diese die Ursache abklärt und eine schwerere Krankheit ausschliesst und, falls nötig, eine gezielte Behandlung einleitet.
Wenn Sie an Asthma, an anderen chronischen Erkrankungen der Atemwege oder an einer Leber- oder Nierenerkrankung leiden, sollten Sie Pretuval nur auf ärztliche Verordnung verwenden.
Bei Auftreten von Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen (Allergie) müssen Sie die Behandlung sofort abbrechen und einen Arzt bzw. eine Ärztin aufsuchen. Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen machen sich mit Hautausschlägen, Gesichtsschwellungen, beschleunigtem Herzschlag, Blutdruckabfall, Schwindel, Unwohlsein und/oder Atembeschwerden bemerkbar. In Einzelfällen können sie bis zur Ohnmacht und zum Schock (sogenannten Kreislaufschock) gehen.
Bei einer seltenen erblichen Krankheit der roten Blutkörperchen, dem sogenannten «Glucose-6-Phosphat-Dehydrogenasemangel» sowie beim gleichzeitigen Gebrauch von Arzneimitteln, welche die Leber beeinflussen, namentlich gewisse Mittel gegen Tuberkulose und Anfallsleiden (Epilepsie) oder bei Arzneimitteln mit dem Wirkstoff Zidovudin die bei Immunschwäche (AIDS) eingesetzt werden, soll die Einnahme nur nach strengen Anweisungen des Arztes/der Ärztin erfolgen.
Von der gleichzeitigen Einnahme von Paracetamol und Alkohol ist abzuraten. Besonders bei fehlender gleichzeitiger Nahrungsaufnahme erhöht sich die Gefahr einer Leberschädigung.
Bei gewissen Personen, z.B. bei Patienten bzw. Patientinnen mit einer Leber- oder Nierenerkrankung sowie bei Personen mit einer erblichen (genetischen) Veranlagung, wird der Wirkstoff Dextromethorphan nach Einnahme wesentlich langsamer abgebaut als bei anderen Personen. Dadurch können nicht nur die hustenstillende Wirkung, sondern vor allem die Nebenwirkungen schon nach einer Behandlungsdauer von 3?4 Tagen zunehmen. Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin wird Sie über die Zusammenhänge aufklären.
Falls bei Ihnen die im Kapitel «Welche Nebenwirkungen kann Pretuval haben?» beschriebenen Nebenwirkungen in starker Ausprägung auftreten, sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fahrtüchtigkeit und die Fähigkeit, Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen, beeinträchtigen! Seien Sie deshalb vorsichtig beim Ausüben dieser Tätigkeiten. Das gilt in verstärktem Masse bei gleichzeitigem Genuss alkoholischer Getränke.
Wenn Sie an Schilddrüsen- oder Prostatakrankheiten und Bluthochdruck leiden, oder wenn Sie Arzneimittel (z.B. Barbiturate oder gewisse Antibiotika) einnehmen, sollten Sie Pretuval nur nach Rücksprache mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin einnehmen. Die Wirkung anderer Arzneimittel kann verstärkt oder beeinträchtigt werden.
Pretuval ist nicht zur langfristigen Einnahme bestimmt; wenn die Symptome der Erkältung nach ein paar Tagen nicht abklingen, soll der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin aufgesucht werden.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte) einnehmen!
Wenn Sie schwanger sind oder es werden möchten oder wenn Sie stillen, sollten Sie vorsichtshalber möglichst auf Arzneimittel verzichten. Für Pretuval ist nicht sicher, ob es die Entwicklung und Gesundheit des ungeborenen Kindes beeinträchtigen kann. Deshalb sollten Sie dieses Arzneimittel während der Schwangerschaft nur einnehmen, wenn Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin dies ausdrücklich verordnet hat. Wenn Sie Pretuval kurz vor dem Ende der Schwangerschaft einnehmen, kann dies zu Atemschwierigkeiten beim Neugeborenen führen.
Die Wirkstoffe von Pretuval treten in geringen Mengen in die Muttermilch über. Von einer Anwendung während der Stillzeit wird deshalb abgeraten.
Pretuval ist nur für Erwachsene und Jugendliche ab 12 Jahren bestimmt.
Übliche Dosierung (falls vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin nicht anders verordnet):
1 Filmtablette 3?4× täglich unzerkaut mit genügend Flüssigkeit einnehmen.
Zwischen den einzelnen Dosen ist ein Abstand von 6 Stunden einzuhalten.
Halten Sie sich an die in der Packungsbeilage angegebene oder vom Arzt bzw. von der Ärztin verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Gelegentlich: Übelkeit und Erbrechen, Verstopfung, Müdigkeit, Schwindel, Mundtrockenheit, Unruhe, Pulsbeschleunigung, Appetitlosigkeit, Hautausschlag.
Selten: Durchfall, Überempfindlichkeitsreaktionen, Verwirrtheit, Atemhemmung. In Einzelfällen Allergie mit schweren Allgemeinsymptomen wie z.B. Bronchialverengung mit Atembeschwerden und Blutdruckabfall, die eine sofortige ärztliche Behandlung erfordern.
Die Nebenwirkungen können stärker sein oder häufiger auftreten, wenn das Präparat in höheren Dosen, über längere Zeit oder zusammen mit gewissen anderen Arzneimitteln eingenommen wird.
Bei einer Überdosierung, d.h. bei Einnahme von höheren als den empfohlenen Dosen und/oder bei Einnahme in kürzeren als den empfohlenen Zeitabständen verstärken sich die oben aufgeführten Nebenwirkungen und die Risiken, die im Abschnitt «Wann ist bei der Einnahme von Pretuval Vorsicht geboten?» beschrieben sind.
Zusätzliche Zeichen einer Überdosierung können sein: Schwitzen, Herzklopfen, verschwommenes Sehen, Erregbarkeit und Bewusstseinsverlust. Diese treten aber erst mehrere Stunden bis einen Tag nach Einnahme auf. Bei Kindern und insbesondere bei Kleinkindern kann eine Überdosierung schwerwiegende Folgen haben.
Sollten Zeichen einer Überdosierung auftreten, müssen Sie unverzüglich mit der Einnahme von Pretuval aufhören und einen Arzt bzw. eine Ärztin verständigen.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Pretuval muss ausserhalb der Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahrt werden.
Lagern Sie Pretuval bei Raumtemperatur (15?25 °C).
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin. Diese Personen verfügen über die ausführliche Fachinformation.
