Xalatan Augentropfen enthalten das Prostaglandin Latanoprost als Wirkstoff und werden zur Senkung des Augeninnendruckes beim Weitwinkel-Glaukom (grüner Star) und bei erhöhtem Augeninnendruck angewendet. Erhöhter Augeninnendruck kann den Sehnerv schädigen und zu einer Verschlechterung des Sehvermögens führen.
Auf Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin.
Das Konservierungsmittel Benzalkoniumchlorid in Xalatan kann Kontaktlinsen braun verfärben. Kontaktlinsen sollten daher vor der Anwendung von Xalatan herausgenommen und erst nach 15 Minuten wieder eingesetzt werden.
Bei einer bekannten oder vermuteten Überempfindlichkeit (Allergie) auf einen Inhaltsstoff von Xalatan.
Bei mehr als 2 von 3 der Patienten und Patientinnen mit gemischt farbigen Augen, v.a. bei jenen die Braun enthalten, führt Xalatan zu einer Verdunkelung der Iris (Regenbogenhaut). Diese Veränderung der Augenfarbe erfolgt sehr langsam; sie kann für immer bleiben. Falls Sie nur ein Auge behandeln, könnten Sie eine unterschiedliche Färbung Ihrer Augen bemerken.
Wenn Sie gemischt farbige Augen haben, sollten Sie zuerst mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin sprechen, bevor Sie mit einer Behandlung beginnen. Kontaktieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin, falls sich eine verstärkte Pigmentierung der Iris entwickelt.
Falls Sie eine Vorgeschichte einer Entzündung der Hornhaut des Auges haben, informieren sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin bevor Sie mit der Behandlung beginnen.
Falls Sie an Asthma leiden, informieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin (beachten Sie bitte den Abschnitt: «Welche Nebenwirkungen kann Xalatan haben?»).
Die Anwendung von Xalatan bei Frühgeborenen wird nicht empfohlen, da keine entsprechenden Erfahrungen vorliegen. Bei Kindern unter einem Jahr ist Vorsicht geboten, da nur wenig entsprechende Erfahrungen vorliegen.
Unmittelbar nach der Anwendung kann die Sicht verschwommen sein. Warten Sie deshalb, bis diese Erscheinung abklingt, bevor Sie Fahrzeuge lenken oder Maschinen bedienen.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie
Xalatan darf während der Schwangerschaft oder Stillzeit nicht angewendet werden, ausser wenn dies von Ihrem Arzt oder Ihrer Ärztin ausdrücklich verordnet wird.
1 Tropfen Xalatan 1× täglich in jedes erkrankte Auge eintropfen, vorzugsweise abends.
Um eine eventuelle systemische Resorption zu minimieren, wird, wie bei anderen Augentropfen auch, empfohlen, den Tränensack unter dem inneren Augenwinkel für eine Minute zu komprimieren (punktueller Verschluss). Dies sollte unmittelbar nach jeder Instillation erfolgen.
Vermeiden Sie Augenkontakt mit dem Fläschchen, um ein Verstopfen der Öffnung zu vermeiden.
Häufigere Gaben setzen die gewünschte Wirkung herab.
Sollten Sie einmal eine Dosis vergessen haben, kann die Therapie mit der nächsten (Abend-) Dosis normal weitergeführt werden. Verdoppeln Sie in diesem Fall die Tropfenzahl nicht.
Falls Sie andere Augentropfen zusammen mit Xalatan anwenden, sollten Sie einen Abstand von mindestens 5 Minuten zwischen jeder Anwendung einhalten.
Falls Sie Xalatan versehentlich eingenommen haben, kontaktieren Sie bitte Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Xalatan Augentropfen können bei Kindern genauso dosiert werden wie bei Erwachsenen. Die Anwendung von Xalatan bei Frühgeborenen wurde nicht untersucht. Bei Kindern unter einem Jahr ist Vorsicht geboten, da nur wenig entsprechende Erfahrungen vorliegen.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Anwendung von Xalatan auftreten:
Sehr häufig treten Augenirritationen wie Brennen, Kratzen, Jucken, Stechen und Fremdkörpergefühl auf. Auch eine Verdunkelung, Verdickung oder Verlängerung sowie eine Zunahme der Anzahl der Wimpern wird sehr häufig beobachtet. Häufig wurde auch über Augenschmerzen, Rötung der Augen und Entzündung des Lidrandes berichtet. Gelegentlich kann eine Schwellung des Lides oder ein Hautausschlag auftreten. Selten wurde auch über Kopfschmerzen, Schwindel, Atemnot, verschwommenes Sehen, Lichtempfindlichkeit, Entzündung der Horn- oder Bindehaut, örtliche Hautreaktionen am Lid, Veränderungen des Augenlids, Verdunkelung der Augenlider sowie Muskel- und Gelenkschmerzen berichtet. In seltenen Fällen kann Xalatan eine Veränderung der feinen Härchen um das Auge verursachen, wie Verdunkelung, Verdickung und Verlängerung sowie eine Zunahme der Anzahl dieser Haare. Selten können die Wimpern durch fehlgerichtetes Wachstum Augenirritationen verursachen.
Bei 48-85% der Patienten und Patientinnen mit gemischt farbigen Augen, v.a. bei jenen mit brauner Grundfarbe, führt Xalatan zu einer Zunahme des braunen Pigmentanteils der Iris (Regenbogenhaut) (siehe unter «Wann ist bei der Anwendung von Xalatan Vorsicht geboten?»).
In sehr seltenen Fällen entwickelten Patienten mit ausgeprägten Hornhautdefekten unter der Therapie mit phosphathaltigen Augentropfen Trübungen der Hornhaut durch die Bildung von Kalziumphosphat.
Bei vereinzelten Patienten und Patientinnen wurden Asthma oder eine Verstärkung des Asthmas sowie akute Asthma-Attacken ausgelöst. In einem solchen Fall ist der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin aufzusuchen.
Sehr selten treten Brustschmerzen oder eine Verschlimmerung einer vorbestehenden Angina pectoris auf.
Bei vereinzelten Patienten und Patientinnen, denen infolge einer Staroperation die Linse aus dem Auge entfernt wurde, ist im Laufe der Therapie mit Xalatan eine Abnahme der Sehschärfe festgestellt worden. In einem solchen Fall ist der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin aufzusuchen.
Falls Nebenwirkungen wie z.B. Verfärbung der Iris (Regenbogenhaut) mit Schmerzen und Lichtscheu oder plötzlicher Trübung des Sehens auftreten, sollten Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.

Unter der Anwendung von Xalatan Augentropfen können bei Kindern dieselben Nebenwirkungen auftreten wie bei Erwachsenen.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen sind bei Kindern häufiger aufgetreten als bei Erwachsenen: Entzündung des Nasen-und Rachenraums und Fieber.
Xalatan kann bei Raumtemperatur (15-25 °C) aufbewahrt werden und muss nach dem Öffnen innerhalb 4 Wochen verwendet werden. Vor Licht geschützt aufbewahren. Allfällige Reste sollten entsorgt werden.
Wie alle Arzneimittel sollte Xalatan ausser Reichweite von Kindern aufbewahrt werden.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
Weitere Auskünfte erteilt Ihnen Ihr Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin. Diese Personen verfügen über die ausführliche Fachinformation.
Wirkstoff: 1 ml Xalatan enthält als Wirkstoff 50 µg Latanoprost.
Hilfsstoffe: Natriumchlorid, Natriumdihydrogenphosphat Monohydrat, wasserfreies Natriummonohydrogenphosphat, Wasser für Injektionszwecke und 0,2 mg des Konservierungsmittels Benzalkoniumchlorid.
